Best – Liverpool’s legendary first organist and a true virtuoso of the Victorian age. Part of the highly anticipated Minton Tiles Reveal 2026 programme – an event that only takes place once every three years – this special exhibition brings Best’s extraordinary story to life in the beautiful surroundings of the Stable Gallery. Discover how a young prodigy rose to become an international star, captivating audiences with his unmatched skill and showmanship. Through a fascinating collection of rarely seen artefacts and archival treasures from the Royal College of Organists, you’ll gain unique insight into his life, legacy, and lasting influence on British music. Explore handwritten scores, historical documents, and personal items that reveal the man behind the music, and for those eager to delve even deeper, there’s a special opportunity to access exclusive archive materials at Liverpool Central Library, shining new light on this iconic figure. Whether you’re a music lover, history enthusiast, or simply curious, this exhibition offers a rare glimpse into the rich cultural heritage of St George’s Hall and the legacy of one of its most celebrated figures. This exhibition is free and open to the public, visitors are welcome from 17th July to 2nd September, from 9:30am to 4:30pm.

Usually concealed beneath a protective wooden cover, this stunning Victorian mosaic is on full display in all its glory. Experience this unforgettable opportunity to view this Victorian masterpiece in all its splendour. A Floor to Adore: Liverpool’s Minton Masterpiece Revealed for Summer 2026 Visitors to St George’s Hall will have an exciting opportunity this summer to experience one of Liverpool’s most stunning architectural treasures when the Hall unveils its magnificent Minton tile floor for an extended public reveal from 17 July to 2 September 2026 . Usually protected beneath a wooden covering to preserve its intricate craftsmanship, the Minton floor is one of the finest examples of Victorian design in the world. Comprising 30,000 hand crafted tiles, the mosaic has captivated hundreds of thousands of people over the decades, with its rich colours, classical motifs and remarkable level of preservation. Expanded Programme and Public Access Last revealed in 2023, with over 20,000 visitors from across the UK, St George’s Hall has expanded the 2026 event programme to include immersive tours, creative workshops, local musicians – including Brad Kella, winner of Channel 4’s The Piano – along with a new archival exhibition. All ticket sales directly support the upkeep of St George’s Hall, with donations also going directly to the St George’s Hall Charitable Trust, which works to preserve the Hall for future generations, as well as the restoration of the Willis Organ. Book Tickets A rare chance to walk the breathtaking Minton tile floor. Usually protected beneath a wooden covering, the spectacular encaustic Minton tile floor has only ever been on public display a handful of times. Wearing our special protective shoe covers, walk across this magnificent mosaic, as your expert Tour Guide brings the Liver Birds, Roman gods, sea nymphs and tridents to life, in vivid detail. Slots are available at 10am, 1pm, 3pm *Visitors with accessibility requirements can access via the Visitor Entrance (opposite the Royal Court) Due to popular demand, we’ve expanded our tour schedule and introduced new tour times throughout August, giving even more visitors the opportunity to experience the iconic Minton Tiles.
